NTC Ocean Series : Ocean Metagenomics
Ocean metagenomics, or the study of entire genetic material present in a water sample, is the next frontier in ecosystem analysis promising to fill in that 99%. Enabled by the development of AI, metagenomics research is paving the way for better conservation and resource management (e.g. fisheries and aquaculture) and unlocking the economic potential of marine genetic resources (e.g. bioprospecting and biotechnology applications). In fact, the value of genetic information has already been established: the Cali Fund, launched at COP16, requires companies in certain sectors (e.g. pharmaceuticals, biotech and cosmetics) to pay for the use of genetic information which is increasingly available with intelligence leveraging metagenomics.
NewAtlantis Labs was founded as the pioneering marine-only, AI-native platform that transforms raw marine biological data into revenue-generating products benefiting MPAs, governments, local communities, industries, and investors. Co-developed with a number of scientists, the team will unveil their platform for the first time on this webinar.
