New Year, New Growth - Seed Bomb Toss
Let's end 2023 with a meaningful day of community. In October, the EcoRotary Club, in partnership with the Ko'olau Mountain Watershed Project, held an event to create seed bombs. In order to celebrate the new year, we will be tossing these seed bombs at Ala Mahamoe in the Moanalua Ahupua'a in order to stimulate new growth.
Registration and KWMP waiver MUST be completed by Dec. 9th.
Ala Mahamoe, also known as Kio'o, is located along its namesake stree in the community of Moanalua Valley. Moanalua was documented as a spot that held lands that were abundant and favored by royals. It was also a popular resting or meeting spot for people traveling across the island.
The area where Ala Mahamoe is located historically held various types of agriculture and was heavily trafficked by native Hawaiians. There are house sites, heiau, lo'i kalo, and four major fishponds with approximately a mile of Ala Mahamoe, meaning that the site was central to a large community.
