Scalable Seaweed Cultivation, Harvesting & Utilization by Shrikumar Suryanarayan, founder of Sea6 Energy

​We are honoured this month to be joined by Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan of Sea6 Energy for a fascinating talk about fully mechanized cultivation and harvesting of seaweed and their unique developments for its utilization for crop yield enhancements (Biostimulant - already widely sold in several countries), food ingredients, bioplastics and other renewable chemicals.

Sea6 Energy was founded in 2010 in IIT Madras and has recently raised their series B, is active in India and Indonesia, with products sold i the US as well. They've received much international coverage including by the Wall Street Journal for the Power of Seaweed and Fast Company of their 'Sea Tractor'.

​Our Speaker, Shrikumar Suryanarayan, is the Managing Director and co-founder of Sea6 Energy. He was formerly the President of Research and Development and Chief Scientific Advisor at Biocon Limited, Bangalore, India (www.biocon.com) for 25 years. In addition, he has served as an Adjunct Faculty at the Department of Biotechnology, at the Indian Institute of technology (IIT) Madras. Shrikumar was also the Chief Executive officer for the Translational Health Sciences Institute (www.thsti.res.in) at the National Capital Region Biosciences Cluster, Government of India from 2009-2010. He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the IIT Madras and a post- graduate degree in Biotechnology from the IIT, Delhi, He was conferred the “Distinguished Alumnus Award ” of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2009.

The talk (20-25 min) will be followed by Q&A (20min) and small breakout rooms.
