Deconstructing Bias with the IFS Model
The Office of Equal Opportunity and HLS Human Resources welcome staff members to an exciting workshop, following and building on principles of the IFS Model, led by faculty member and mediator David Hoffman.
Science tells us that we all have biases, some conscious and some unconscious. In a recently published article, Professor Hoffman and Helen Winter surveyed the social psychology literature regarding bias reduction techniques and identified seven main categories of promising interventions: awareness, motivation, individuation, perspective-taking, contact, stereotype replacement, and mindfulness. Their work suggests several real-world applications of these techniques to address both individual and systemic biases, including the use of the Internal Family Systems model to better understand where our biases are coming from and how we can overcome them.
All staff are welcome to attend. Participation in pervious workshops is not a pre-requisite.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
This is an in-person event and registration is limited.
