Sci-Fi CoWork Day @ Draper
hi all,
I am on the pre-seed investing team of our fund focused on emerging technologies and went down the stagnation rabbit hole back in fall 2022, I'll expand on that and what we do below.
atoms + bits
I believe that progress has stagnated over the last 50 years, since we got off the gold standard in the early 1970s. Especially in the world of atoms. Check out the Roots of Progress blog on Technological Stagnation here.
If hard problems excite you, if playing a role ending technological stagnation excites you, we need more of you.
It's going to take village, that is what we want to build.
Imagine 20 people working across different industries in hard tech, working together for a few hours.
The problem solving IRL on white boards is unmatched.
sci-fi ideas
I want to leave you with another resource, check out the Sci-Fi idea bank here.
The number of sci-fi writings have gone down in the last 50 years.
We peaked in the early 20th century and have been in a decline since 1970s. How has this coincided with technological stagnation in the world of atoms? Food for thought?
I will leave you with this and let you wander.
the mission
reverse engineer a sci-fi idea
co-author and publish a blog, introduce new sci-fi

draper ecosystem funds + deeptech
We have invested in ~600 companies in the last decade or so, ~50% of which have been DeepTech.

*What are Draper ecosystem funds? All VC firms that either use the Draper brand name or where Tim is a special LP. Look up Draper Venture Network for details.
On a personal level, I also continue to invest in 3-4 companies a year. Pure hard tech. One of them is building a humanoid robot, one is launching satellites and one of them is building electric sea gliders for transport.
looking forward to seeing you
