SANKOFA DAYS @ The BAY, in celebration of SF CLIMATE WEEK 2024, welcomes ALL to join us to learn more about how YOU can take part in climate action.

The Sankofa symbol form the Akan culture and meaning is most apropos: “Know your past to understand your future.” The protection and sustainability of our environment is critical, and we can learn from past challenges to help forge a better and stronger environment for tomorrow.

Bay Area youth and families are invited to a program designed exclusively for you!

Celebrating Families and contributions by Environmental Champions of the African Diaspora

SANKOFA DAYS @ The BAY Youth & Family Day features cultural learning activities focused on climate action, the environment and environmental justice, and sustainability that will appeal to children. millennials, seniors, and everyone in-between! We will celebrate notable African American heroes and leaders in the environmental movement.

Activities:

  • Access to the Aquarium exhibits beginning at 12Noon. Special programming 1pm - 3pm in the Farallon Room.

  • Learn about the history of African Americans and their contributions to the environment, social justice, and more.

  • Learn more about climate action, sustainability, sea level rise, and ecological restoration.

  • Walk through two immense glass water tunnels surrounded by the mesmerizing creatures that live underwater

  • Get up close with sharks, bat rays, river otters, jellyfish, and hundreds of other species.

The San Francisco Chapter of the Links, Inc. is partnering with the Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Foundation (NorcalMLK Foundation) to ensure that the events are engaging, educational, inclusive, and celebratory of the richness of the African Diaspora. Other partner organizations include Aquarium of the Bay, The San Francisco Department of the Environment, and The Port of San Francisco among others.
