Salsa Cubana & Rueda de Casino Beginner Plus :: 3 Weeks Jan 19 - Feb 2 2022
Class and open dance resumes at The Range for the Beginner Plus Level on January 19th with Claridancer, and is for continuing students, or with permission. Beginner 1 with Michael resumes for continuing and new students on February 9th.
Introduction. Rueda de Casino is an excellent way to learn the fundamentals of Salsa timing, movement, and lead-follow. In Rueda, dancers change partners in a Salsa "wheel," while performing steps and combinations to the arrangement of a caller. Rueda allows students to dance with various partners in fluid motion, and in a relaxed setting. In this series, we also use line and single couple formats. Each of two levels will have their own instructor.
Beginner Plus (Level 2) Resumes Jan 19. In the Beginner Plus series, we review, refine, and teach new repertoire based on the "open break" and "right turn on 1" techniques and principles of Cuban Salsa. We explain how to use a range of step sequences and moves to develop lead-follow skill, a combination repertoire, and style and confidence.
[Beginner 1 Resumes Feb 9. In our Beginner series we teach the set of steps needed to dance Cuban style Salsa as a single couple, and amongst multiple couples in a Rueda de Casino. These include the signature step “Guapea,” and combinations of “Dile Que No” (cross-body lead), “Exhibela” (right turn), and “Dame” (pronounced “da-me,” called for a partner change), amongst others.]
Footwear. Please wear comfortable fitted footwear with medium level traction and flat soles, or low heals or lifts, to facilitate movement and avoid injury.
Registration and Payment. Advanced registration and payment is requested for the Beginner Plus 3 week series; on-site registration and drop-in is also accepted. Since class is held at a music venue & bar, admission is 21+. Class registration is in addition to Salsa Wednesday admission, which continues after class with open dance, a free lesson at 9:30pm, and party with DJ from 10pm to 1am. We request that students "Pay What You Wish (PWYW)" for the 7:45pm class so that anyone can participate, and to encourage regular attendance. For online registration, a base price is set at $30 ($12 for drop-in) to which discount codes can be applied in the coupon section: 25OFF, 50OFF, 75OFF, 100OFF (use the last code if you wish to register and pay at class).
