About Event

Salsa & Rueda Class is on at The Range from August 3 to August 24 2022, with new 4 Week Beginner Level 1 and Level 2 Series. Level 2 is open to students who have grasped the content of Level 1. New students register for Beginner. If you are uncertain of your level, please contact Michael at mlr24@cornell.edu.

Rueda de Casino is an excellent way to learn Salsa timing, repertoire, and lead-follow. In Rueda, dancers change partners in a Salsa "wheel," while performing steps and combinations to the arrangement of a caller. Rueda allows students to dance with various partners in fluid motion, and in a relaxed setting. In our L1 and L2 series, we start in line format and progress into single couple and circle formats.

Beginner Level 1 7:30-8:30pm. In our Beginner series we teach the set of steps needed to dance Cuban Salsa individually, as a single couple, and amongst multiple couples in a Rueda de Casino. These include a set of 15 steps, the combinations “Dile Que No” and "Dile Que Si" (cross-body leads), “Exhibela” (right turn), and “Dame” (pronounced “da-me,” used for partner change).

Beginner Level 2/3 8:30-9:30pm. In Level 2 we review, refine, and enhance Level 1 content, and add combinations built off of the open break such as "Adios" and "Enchufle." In Level 3 we add the follower's "right turn on 1," a dynamic lead-follow technique which opens up Cuban Salsa repertoire and allows for a whole new experience.

Open Dance & Extra Lesson . After class, we play Salsa music, and other Latin genres upon request, so students can practice before the Intro Lesson and Party begins. A basic footwork & partner dance lesson and party follows at 9:45pm Latin time.

Footwear. Please wear comfortable fitted footwear with medium level traction and flat soles, or low heals or lifts, to facilitate movement, sustain energy, and avoid fatigue.

Instructor. Michael Luis Ristorucci, Salsa Ithaca Director.

Food & Beverage. The Range invites customers to bring in food from outside vendors, and to purchase beverages from The Range. No outside drinks are allowed. A water bottle is okay. We appreciate your support of the bar.

Registration and Payment. Register in advance using the form provided here. Payment can be completed online or at class. The suggested price per class is a sliding scale of $7 to $12, based on what you can afford. An additional discount can be provided if needed. The cover for the portion of Salsa Wednesday that starts after class, in other words the “main event,” is $10; for students taking class and staying for the event, we bundle the price for both into a suggested $15. To pay online, the base price is set on the bundle basis of $15 per session, or $60 for the series (pro rata to $45 for the remaining 3 weeks of 8/10, 8/17, and 8/24), with the following percentage discount codes which can be applied in the coupon section for a session or the series: 10OFF, 20OFF, 30OFF, 40OFF, 50OFF, and 100OFF.  Use the last code to pay at class by cash, check, Venmo, CashApp. Cash is preferred. Please be sure to answer the survey questions that accompany the registration form. If you are a continuing student and wish to take both Level 1 and Level 2/3, you are welcome to do so, and may pay the suggested bundle price.
