About Event

Salsa Rueda Class is on at The Range from April 13 to May 11 2022, with new Beginner Level 1 and Level 2 Series. Level 2 is open to students who have completed or grasped the content of Level 1. New students register for Beginner. If you are uncertain of your level, please contact Michael at mlr24@cornell.edu. Space is limited. Guarantee your place by registering in advance.

Rueda de Casino is an excellent way to learn Salsa timing, repertoire, and lead-follow. In Rueda, dancers change partners in a Salsa "wheel," while performing steps and combinations to the arrangement of a caller. Rueda allows students to dance with various partners in fluid motion, and in a relaxed setting. In this series, we use line, single couple, and circle formats. Each of two levels has their own instructor.

Beginner Level 1 7:30-8:30pm. In our Beginner series we teach the set of steps needed to dance Cuban Salsa individually, as a single couple, and amongst multiple couples in a Rueda de Casino. These include the signature step “Guapea,” and the combinations “Dile Que No” and "Dile Que Si" (cross-body leads), “Exhibela” (right turn), and “Dame” (pronounced “da-me,” used for partner change). Taught by Michael.

Beginner Level 2 8:30-9:30pm - open to continuing students. In Beginner Plus, we teach new repertoire based on the "open break" and "right turn on 1" techniques of Cuban Salsa. We explain how to use a range of step sequences and moves to develop lead-follow skill, combination proficiency, style, and confidence. Taught by Clarita.

Open Dance & Footwork Lesson . After class, we play Salsa music, and other Latin genres upon request, so our students can practice before the Intro Lesson and Party begins. A footwork dance lesson and party follows at 9:45pm.

Footwear. Please wear comfortable fitted footwear with medium level traction and flat soles, or low heals or lifts, to facilitate movement, sustain energy, and avoid fatigue.

Registration and Payment. Advance registration through the form provided here is required to guarantee your place, and includes class at 7:30 or 8:30, and open dance that follows. Students staying beyond class and open dance pay the event admission for the footwork lesson at 9:45pm and the party until 1am. We ask class registrants to "Pay What You Wish (PWYW)" based on what is affordable for you. A base price is set at $20 for the remaining two weeks of the current five week series (5/4, 5/11) and $12 for drop-in, with discount codes which can be applied in the coupon section online: 25OFF, 50OFF, 75OFF, and 100OFF. Use the last code if you wish to pay by other means. Payment can be made by cash or check at class, or by Venmo to Salsa-Ithaca, or CashApp to $SalsaIthaca. Write "Salsa Class" plus the date(s) covered by your payment in the memo. Please be sure to answer the survey questions that accompany the registration form. If you are a continuing student and wish to take both Level 1 and Level 2, you may do so, and you may pay what you wish in light of taking two classes and what is affordable to you. Registrants must be 21+ and fully vaccinated.
