About Event

We will gather on each full moon throughout the coming year to offer the Kuan Yin Compassion & Renewal Ceremony.

Drawing from the Chinese Mahayana tradition, this practice honors the eternal vow of Bodhicitta—offering compassion, healing, and protection to all beings.

Please note that this event replaces the April 12th full moon ceremony.

Event Description

The worshipped and the worshipper are empty and still in nature. The response and the way are intertwined inconceivably.

– Kuan Yin Compassion & Renewal Ceremony

April's ceremony will be hosted by Kittisaro and Thanissara in collaboration with Linda Lamson of Yoga for Climate Action and guests, to honor Earth Day by offering Dharma reflections and holding a short form Kuan Yin ceremony.  Dana, and all further offerings from this event will go to Amazon Watch, an indigenous-led project to protect the Amazon.

In the Theravada Buddhist traditions there is the observance of Uposatha, dedicated times of practice, that occur in accordance with the four primary phases of the moon. In this spirit, we’ll be offering opportunities to deepen in practice through the Kuan Yin Compassion & Renewal Ceremony on the full moons.

This ceremony is a part of the contemplative practices within the Kuan Yin Dharmas. Kuan means “listen” or to contemplate and Yin means “sound.” Kuan Yin is known as the Bodhisattva who “contemplates the sounds of the world at ease, and who responds through merciful and fierce compassion to overcome obstructions".

Kuan Yin can be seen in many different ways. As a living subtle presence, as a timeless being who holds a vow to stay near this realm to rescue and awaken living beings, as an archetype, as a force of compassion that appears just as needed to touch the hearts of living beings, healing and transforming them. Ultimately, Kuan Yin (Avalokitesvara in Sanskrit) represents the timeless, knowing, present Citta, heart-mind, within all.

The ancient practice of this ceremony invokes the transformative power, energy, and frequency of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Saints and Sages, and all supportive ancestral, elemental, and angelic forces to help dissolve obstacles in this time of profound planetary transformation.

The ceremony supports our individual practice, helps dissolve personal, ancestral, and collective obstructions, and supports the dissolving of all obstructive karma throughout all realms, all time and all space.

This ceremony is adapted for lay practice by Kittisaro & Thanissara from The Great Compassion Repentance Ceremony.

Details, text, and materials will be sent before the ceremony.
