Design Walks Toronto - Inaugural Event
August 23rd | Queen Victoria's Statue → Le Génie Café
What is Design Walks?
Join us for Toronto's first Design Walks - a networking experience that combines professional dialogue with physical movement. Born from a simple conversation between Arjit Singh and Chris Miller, Design Walks creates meaningful connections within our design community by taking conversations out of virtual chat rooms, IRL and onto the streets.
For our first walk, we’ll be starting at Queen’s Park (Queen Victoria’s Statue) with a walk over to Le Génie Café.
Event Details
Date: August 23rd
Start: Queen Victoria's Statue (Queen's Park)
Finish: Le Génie Café for coffee & beverages
Duration: Approximately 2 hours
Capacity: Limited to first 20 participants
Format: Walking discussion groups
Registration Requirement
To join this inaugural event, participants must complete a simple but meaningful registration task: try out an AI wireframe builder/generator and share your experience. This isn't about creating perfect wireframes - it's about bringing a shared experience to our conversations and exploring how AI tools are reshaping our design practice.
During registration, you'll document your experience with any AI wireframing tool (such as Figma AI, Uizard, Wireframe.cc AI, or similar) and share your thoughts on this figma board. After you sign up on Luma, request edit access to the board.
What worked?
What felt clunky?
How did it change your typical design process?
Your insights will contribute to our collective understanding and spark meaningful discussions during the walk.
The Experience
We'll begin our walk at the iconic Queen Victoria's Statue in Queen's Park, where you'll meet fellow designers, UXers, and creative professionals. As we walk through Toronto's vibrant neighborhoods, you'll engage in organic conversations about design challenges, career experiences, mentoring insights, and professional growth.
Our route concludes at Le Génie Café, where we'll continue conversations over coffee.
Who This Is For
Design Walks welcomes:
Experienced designers and UXers looking to share knowledge and mentor others while expanding their professional network beyond their current circles
Mid-career professionals seeking genuine connections with peers who understand the unique challenges of design work and career progression
Career changers and bootcamp graduates who want to learn from seasoned professionals in an informal, supportive environment without the intimidation of traditional networking events
Freelancers and consultants craving community connection and seeking to break free from isolated work environments
Design leaders and managers interested in giving back to the community while staying connected to diverse perspectives and emerging trends
Anyone feeling disconnected from the design community who values authentic conversations over superficial networking
What sets us apart: We focus on personal stories and real experiences rather than portfolios and resumes. Whether you're sharing hard-won wisdom or seeking guidance, DesignWalks creates space for meaningful dialogue that goes beyond professional achievements to explore the human side of design careers.
This isn't about pitching services or hunting for jobs - it's about building a compassionate creative community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.
