Body awareness, movement, mental sharpness, flexibility and strength are all relevant aspects of effective interpreting as our interpreting tasks happen in and through the body and mind. Using Pilates processes, this workshop will explore body-healthy activities and preparation that will lead to stronger and more confident interpreting. Our time together will also include exploration of ASL body and movement vocabulary, including classifiers, as tools for effective interpreting choices. You will leave equipped with an invigorated body, mind and spirit.
· Learn body mechanics that will aid in flexibility and strength
· Review and rehearse ASL vocabulary for body and muscle groups, including classifiers
· Review the history and philosophy of Pilates
· Apply Pilates philosophy and exercises for healthy and strong interpreting preparation and practice
