Designing with Nature: Biomaterials and Nature-Based Solutions for Resilient Urban Landscapes
Talk by José Miguel Lameiras
When? Thu 26 June, 10:00 - 11:30
Where? BioMakerStudio, Otakaari 7B, 02150 Espoo, Finland
How nature can be both material and method in the design of sustainable urban environments. By integrating biomaterials and nature-based solutions into the planning and design of green infrastructures and public spaces, this talk presents a vision of cities where vegetation, soil, water, and organic structures are not only functional components, but active agents of climate resilience, ecological regeneration, and urban well-being.
Rooted in the core principles of landscape architecture and green structure planning, the lecture examines the aesthetic, ecological, and performative roles of trees and plant-based systems in public space. It highlights how cities can transition from grey to green—and from extractive to regenerative—by using nature as both inspiration and infrastructure.
