About Event

Kick-off Toronto Pride season by joining us for a powerful evening of conversation and storytelling at a live recording of Journalists for Human Rights’ (JHR) podcast, in partnership with Dignity Network Canada and Pink Triangle Press:

Queer Voices and Visibility in Hostile Times

Date: Tuesday, June 3rd

Time: 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM (Live recording + reception)

Venue: Allied Music Centre Theatre, 178 Victoria St, Toronto, ON M5B 1T6

This special episode will examine the media’s critical role in shaping public understanding of LGBTQ+ rights—both in Canada and globally—at a time of rising anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric.

Featuring guest speakers:

Kevin Mwachiro – Renowned Writer, Podcaster, Journalist, and Queer Activist from Kenya

Tara-Michelle Ziniuk – Managing Editor, Xtra

Lisa LaFlamme (moderator) – Canadian journalist and host of the JHR Podcast

Together, these voices from journalism and activism will unpack how global and local challenges intersect, where media coverage falls short, and what responsible, inclusive reporting looks like today.

A reception will follow the discussion—connect with community, continue the conversation, and enjoy refreshments.
