About The Workshop

This 3 hour workshop will make space for the anger, the tending, the loving, the yearning, the rest, the isolation, the movement, the stillness, the aches, the balms... the words we don't yet have; the words we do, and are waiting to cast.

About The Facilitator

Rise is a queer Black disabled genderfluid femmeboi living on Potawatomi, Ojibwa, and Odawa land (Chicago).

Rise is a visual artist, poet, full spectrum (birth / postpartum / grief&loss / abortion) birthworker, yoga teacher, meditation facilitator, gender affirming and trauma informed care and disability justice educator, access consultant and community care worker.

Rise is deeply invested in disability justice, access, centering wellness for Black queer folk, trauma education, and rest. When not doing the most, they enjoy daydreaming, dancing, and hanging with their support pup, Jelly Ferocious.

Rise started Riotous Roots two years ago as a means to house their talents, passions and dreams for their communities in one place. You can learn more about them at their website or Instagram.

Event Access Offerings

SiQ recognizes that providing universal access can be near impossible because of conflicting access needs and logistical limitations online, but we're always working toward expanding access in the tangible ways that we can. Accessibility is an ever-evolving learning practice that we aim to keep adapting according to individual and collective needs and requests.

We want to take particular care in addressing the inaccessibility and lateral ableism often replicated in hearing, sighted and verbal-centered disabled spaces. SiQ is especially open to receiving feedback from d/Deaf, hard of hearing (HoH), no or low vision, and nonverbal community members.

Our offerings are as follows:

  • Access coordination

  • ASL interpretation

  • Auto captions and transcript

  • Audio and visual descriptions provided

  • Access comrade will be present at the event for in-the-moment safety and support needs
