Breaking Up With Dating: A New Paradigm of Intimate Relationships
Event Overview:
In our modern culture, there's so much attention placed on finding “the one” and seeking a romantic partnership as the pinnacle of relational accomplishment. We are bound to face disappointment when we romanticize and covet romantic relationships as the only form of relational success.
For this event, we’ll take up the notion that there is a new relational paradigm emerging that holds sacred the role of community, platonic intimate bonds, and a broader web of chosen family to meet our needs and longings for intimacy, belonging, co-creation, and human connection.
In this Olio x humhum collaboration, we’ll join together with couples therapist and co-host of the “Cheaper than Therapy” podcast, Dené Logan to challenge the notion of romantic love as the highest goal in our relationships and we’ll discuss, and learn about the role community and friendships can play in our personal and societal evolution.
Through facilitated dialogue and activities, humhum and Dené will guide us to explore the relational paradigm shifts we are experiencing, noticing, and longing for; from friendships, to collaborative partnerships, to co-creative communities. Essential to these relationships is a foundation of secure attachment with ourselves and with our intimate bonds, and part of this event will be about introducing some methods for cultivating this kind of security and intimacy.
Dené will guide us in a discussion that:
Helps us unravel the patriarchal influence on the modern relational paradigm
Illuminates new pathways of relationship we can explore when we practice a process-orientation with relationships rather than an outcome-orientation.
Expand our perspective on how we might get our needs met in relationships beyond romantic partnerships.
Grants permission to be imperfect: As we find our way in relationships, we'll learn to embrace the messiness that goes hand in hand with intimacy, and co-creation.
humhum will guide interactive breakouts that:
Fosters meaningful connection: Through storytelling, and discussion, explore the seismic shifts in societal relationships and the potential we can unlock when we come together.
Are an emergence playground: Explore the space between you and others, deep listening, attuning, while practicing releasing attachment to outcome.
