⚛️ TALK #1

Accessibility in Design Systems By Jordan Overbye, Senior Engineer at Thinkmill

For the past year, Jordan has been working on the Agriculture Design System (AgDS) – a modern React implementation of GOLD, the former official Australian Government design system. The aesthetic and design principles of GOLD have been extended into AgDS to support the departments digital transformation goals.

The AgDS team recently engaged with accessibility experts Intopia, who audited AgDS against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and conducted usability sessions with users who heavily rely on assistive technology. AgDS achieved AA-level compliance against the WCAG v2.1 standard from Intopia, who now refer to it as an exemplary implementation of an accessible React-based design system.

In this talk, Jordan will walk through the architecture of AgDS and how the team tackle usability and accessibility issues at each level of the design system.

⚛️ TALK #2

⚡️ Introducing Pragmatic drag and drop - a new performance optimised drag and drop framework by Alex Reardon – the creator of react-beautiful-dnd

For the last year, a small team of us at Atlassian have been having another crack and drag and drop - this time with performance being our primary goal. Listeners will be able to take the same principles we have successfully leveraged and apply them to other problem domains in order to make the web a faster place.

💃 ABOUT

We’re a diverse and welcoming React community who gather to learn from and hang out with our peers. This meetup is relevant for React newbies and veterans, as well as folks in development-adjascent practice areas. Talks start at 6:30pm. Feel free to arrive any time after 6:00pm.

Come as yourself, or bring along some buddies, as we finally get to hang IRL together, as the React Sydney community. Expect to make friends, eat pizza and have a drink (alcoholic or not)
