About Event

Join us for Online Programme: Partner Takeover Three - How To Talk To Strangers with Traci Ruble (Sidewalk Talk) of the World Wide Wander 2025. This event is one of many other online events occurring over the 27th June and 28th June 2025. Find out about all the events of the World Wide Wander. Join us for both in-person and online events and let's find - and share - ideas, insights and solutions to the big challenges out there, inspired by our walking. Let's wander the world, together.

Everything you need to know about this session!

You were told not to talk to strangers. But what if that’s the worst advice for your mental health?

Join Traci Ruble - psychotherapist, founder of the global listening project Sidewalk Talk, and professional lover of awkward human moments - for a lively 45-minute wander into the gentle art of saying hello (without sounding like a weirdo). Whether you're shy, chatty, or somewhere in between, you’ll leave with a little more confidence, a few good stories, and maybe a desire to talk to that person in line behind you at the post office.

What We’ll Get Into (gently, we promise):

  • What neuroscience says about small talk and why your brain actually loves it

  • How to rewire your fear of rejection (feat. Kitty, an 80-year-old listening legend in Kentucky)

  • Why a compliment about someone’s socks might just save your afternoon

  • Simple, science-backed tips to break the ice and keep it cool

  • Playful improv and one very odd object

What to Bring

  • A curious or odd object from your Street Wisdom walks or something around the house.

  • Pen + paper or your notes app

  • One time you almost talked to someone but chickened out

  • Your glorious, awkward, maybe-a-little-sweaty self

Indoors or outdoors. In motion or in your pajamas. Let’s wander into a world where strangers become a little less strange—and life gets a little more alive.

Hang on, this is free?

Yes! Street Wisdom is a non-profit on a mission to bring inspiration to every street on planet earth. We were founded by the arts and business innovator, David Pearl, after he noticed his work with clients always got to newer, deeper places when he walked outdoors with them. David's mission has always been to make and keep Street Wisdom free for everyone. If you are drawn to support our work, please do make a donation. Thank you.

Stay streetwise

The Street Wisdom Walkshop has a risk disclaimer (see below) which you agree to by making a booking. This is to remind you that the wonderful big outdoor world - as well as potentially containing fresh new insights, ideas and intention - contains all sorts of things including risks, and so it's important to be vigilant. We think Street Wisdom is about heightening your awareness, the kind that means you're becoming more alert, rather than zoning out. So importantly: have fun, find your Street Wisdom, but also be streetwise.
