Cash Out of The Matrix: Bitcoin Money & Magic
Cash out of the Matrix is a recurring public forum about art and money in the age of surveillance.
In Part 1, we examined the subtle ways in which tech platforms utilize surveillance tokenomics to engineer our behavior, social connections, and even our perceived reality. We discussed the latest developments in bitcoin and cryptocurrency legislation, as well as the social impacts that institutional tokenization will have on our material agency and privacy.
In part 2 of this series, we will delve into the esoteric roots of both bitcoin and money. The origin of both is shrouded in mystery. Despite the struggle to agree on a definition for these social constructs, they continue to both rise in influence. Why is this? How can abstract ideas govern the way we interact, think and perceive the world? Is this the heart of the matrix? And can we envision a world without these labor and energy-governing modules?
Come join us at this month’s public forum, where we will explore this topic in a Socratic format, over enjoy good beer and food.
The ideas put forth at every event are published in our monthly zine and cataloged in a Bitcoin Ordinals collection. Check out https://thebitcoinmint.com/zine/ to learn more.
