Public Engagement in TREs - UK TRE Community December meeting
The UK TRE Community December quarterly event will happen on 3rd December from 1:30 to 5:00 please join us!
About the event
Each quarter the UK TRE Community meets to discuss and collaborate on topics relating to research with sensitive data.
For our December meeting we the event will focus on a critical aspect. One that have arisen many times before, most recently during our annual conference. How can the public participate in TRE / SDE activities?
Such an important topic deserves shaking format up and so we will try an slightly different agenda from previou events for a more in depth discussion.
We will get started with our usual community updates, both from working groups and anyone that wants to share out (please let us know in advance if you would like to speak).
Then we will take a break and afterwards we will be devoting the session to considering the public voice in TRE/SDE worlds.
Five views on how the Public engage with TREs/SDEs will be presented, each taking a different perspective. The aim is to prepare the meeting for a panel discussion by promoting key questions and viewpoints. Speakers are from:
Members of the Public
Public representative body Use My Data
Research Data Scotland
OneLondon
PEDRI
The event is closely connected to our Working group on "Citizen Agency"
After these we hope to have an engaging active discussion and Q&A for about 40mins.

Background
The UK TRE Community is a community of over 200 people that has grown organically over the last year for anyone interested in TREs, including researchers, operators, information governors, managers and more, from all sectors and disciplines.
The core aims of fostering collaboration and sharing of innovative ideas to support the delivery of groundbreaking research with sensitive data have resonated across the UK and beyond.
The community has a website, an active mailing list and Slack channel, and working groups tackling shared problems. We also run quarterly events like this for the community to come together, discuss ideas and problems within the TRE space and work collaboratively together on possible solutions and ways forward!
