Intro to Typography: Design Your Own Typeface

​In this course, students will learn the basics of how to start designing a custom typeface.

​The class will begin with a bit of history and vocabulary terms used to talk about typographic forms. Next we will talk about things to consider when choosing what type of font you would like to design. Last we will learn some basic rules of thumb when beginning to design your typeface. From here I will come around the classroom and help students workshop their typeface, keeping in mind things like legibility, readability, and historical context.

​Students will leave with a foundational knowledge of how to sketch and begin building out an alphabet for their custom typeface.
