Mother's Day Poetry & Coffee
Event Description: This event is for anyone who wants to sit down and listen to some chapters from YA novels (ex, The Phantom Tollbooth or A Wrinkle in Time) for a bit and then write poetry after. Or just for anyone who wants to write some poetry and wants a little company on Mother's Day, kids books be damned. If you feel the need to go off-book and make bacon of Piglet, this is also that kind of space. What's important is that we're all gathered and writing together. After we're done writing, we'll go around and read what we've written to each other and maybe say a few words and then head our separate ways. For clarification, everything you write in this space is and will be considered poetry (this is meant to sound encouraging).
About Your Host, Maudie Ainsworth: For those of you who don't know me, I'm Maudie. This event mimics a poetry phone call I do with my friends every Wednesday night and the inspiration for it came from the kind of literature I like to read or listen to (go Libby!!!) when I want to breathe new meanings into old patterns.
Sustenance: Cold brew & light fare (Snacks not required to bring, but I might put out some bread and cheese? Dried fruits? A little snack... if you're mad allergic or an angry vegan maybe you sit outside?)
Nitty Gritty: There is an indoor/outdoor house cat named Roo. Street parking is available all around. As for mobility access, anyone with mobility issues can come up the driveway and go through the gate, it's a small slope but a lot easier to manage than the front stairs. Unfortunately, the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible. We have a huge driveway that's not in use so there is ample bike parking as well. No gender restrictions, I have a male friend I write poetry with and I'd like him to be able to join if he wants.
Materials: Preferred writing materials (you know, pen & paper)
