About Event

What have you learned today?

What has made you stop and wonder ‘How, who, what, why or when?

All great learning and discovery that humanity has ever experienced has started with a question. The ancient philosophers asked questions, and spent their lives debating the answers. Scientific discoveries, technological innovations. As long as we keep asking questions we keep learning and keep growing.

From the moment your child points at an object and you tell them what it is, they are learning by questioning. Any parent who has gone through the ‘endless why’ stage knows that children are innately curious and have a million questions about the world around them. The more we can empower them to find answers to their questions, to reassure them that it is always ok to ask questions, we keep that curiosity alive in them.

Research shows that when we learn about things we are actually curious about, that we have questions about, we learn better. When we allow children to ask questions, and empower them to find their own solutions, the learning is far more meaningful.

Traditional education doesn’t tend to do this. More concerned with knowledge transmission rather than curious exploration and discovery, school often leaves children afraid to ask questions.

How can we overcome this? How can we keep the fire of curiosity and wonder alive in children as they grow?

Marko Koskinen is passionate about question-based learning, and designed a successful method to teach math through question-based learning which has been used successfully in Finland for about 10 years.

Marko will be talking with Vlad and discussing how we can help children to use the fuel of their curiosity to ask questions, and empower them to find their own answers.

Bring your questions, and join us for this fascinating exploration about the value of curiosity and inquiry
