AMA - Leah Bross from Code for America

​Leah Bross is a Group Product Manager at Code For America where she works to expand the reach of Safety Net products. 

​What does Leah work on at Code for America? 

​Over the last several years Leah and her team worked with the California Department of Social Services to build GetCalFresh, a digital enrollment assistant which helps people apply for CalFresh food assistance (California’s name for SNAP). The goal of the product is to ensure that every Californian who needs CalFresh has an easy, dignified experience enrolling in and accessing their food benefits. In 2020, GCF assisted 65% of all people applying for SNAP in California (3m+) and delivered over $2.2 billion in benefits.

​What is a Product Manager? 

​Leah works with software engineers and non-technical teammates to deliver a great software product for her customers. Here’s a primer she likes to explain the role of a Product Manager.  

​Besides Civic Tech and Product Management, what else should you ask Leah about? 

​Prior to Code for America, Leah held strategy, operations, and product roles at Segment, a leading customer data platform. Before Segment, she helped National Parks manage their costs and commercial assets with Booz Allen Hamilton. Leah has also spent time at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency.
