SFNode at HockeyStack
SFNode is a community meetup. At every meetup, we try to have a mix of beginner and advanced talks. If you want to host or want to speak, please create an issue on the SFNode Github.
We are looking for all types of speakers: ones that have done it before and first-timers! Send us a message and we are happy to help prepare for a talk.
We would like to thank our host: HockeyStack for hosting us this month 🙏

Talk #1 Abstract:
Patterns Not Types: Vanilla Extract by Delmer Reed
Explores how patterns naturally emerge as product codebases evolve. Instead of forcing strict abstractions or relying on type systems, this talk focuses on recognizing recurring solutions, extracting their core essence, and refining them into sustainable patterns that keep code maintainable and intuitive as products grow.

Talk #2 Abstract:
Burn the libraries, write some libraries by Tauseef
Frontend libraries have become too bloated. And the OSS landscape is fairly consolidated among large companies. New engineers often end up picking something from the top of the SEO pile.
jQuery was written by one person, {{ mustache }}
by a handful, and so were Bootstrap, and Hogan.js.
How hard can it be, let's write a tiny library, that will hopefully never become bloated.

Talk #3 Abstract:
I Built an AI Agent in One Day. Here’s How You Can Too! by Souheila
I wanted to build an AI agent but didn’t know where to start. So, I gave myself one day to figure it out.
In this talk, I’ll share how I went from knowing little to building a working AI agent in just one day, what worked, what didn’t, and the tricks that made it easier. We’ll go over choosing the right models, adding reasoning and autonomy, and keeping things simple without getting lost in technical details.
If you're an engineer, designer, or product manager, this session is for you. Let’s break down AI agents and get you building fast. If I could do it in a day, so can you.

Open mic
Open mic time gives attendees 2-3 minutes of time to talk to the entire group. This is the time to debut a new project, announce upcoming events or let people know they're hiring.
