Ofcom Session for Small, Low-Risk Community Sites
Promising Trouble is hosting a lunchtime session with Ali Hall and Andrew Park from Ofcom to discuss the new Online Safety responsibilities for small, low-risk community sites.
As well as an overview of responsibilities, there will be time for Q&A. So we can use the time as efficiently as possible, please send these in advance to hello@promisingtrouble.net so they can be collated.
This session will be recorded.
The Online Safety Act: what it means to be ‘low risk’
All online services need to identify, manage and mitigate risks of illegal content. For some, the risks on their service are low. For others, they may be higher or more complex. This session is designed to support services who think they may be low risk for all kinds of illegal harm. Among other things, it will cover the scope of the law, how to make and record decisions in your risk assessment, and the minimum safety measures that apply to all – such as certain governance, content reporting and complaints handling measures.
Session includes:
Understanding which parts of your service the law applies to
Ensuring your ‘low risk’ decision is robust and evidence-based
Ofcom’s recommended safety measures for all services
