Format: Presentation
Objective: Highlight the latest innovations being adopted to address leakage challenges.
12:20 PM – 12:40 PM: Session 4 MOSL Overview
Speaker: Steve Formoy, Financial Director, MOSL
12:40 PM – 1:00 PM: Session 5: A deep dive into leakage using smart meter data: An UKWIR research project
Speaker: Juan Gutierrez-Andres, Global Product Manager, HR Wallingford
The increasing availability of flow data from smart meters (especially in those areas where a very high coverage is achieved) significantly reduces the lack of knowledge we historically had about customer consumption in real time. This UKWIR research project tries to understand if that new set of data is sufficient to make a shift from traditional estimation methods such as the minimum night flow analysis towards full mass balance analysis. This presentation will describe the findings and conclusions of the study and a new hybrid methodology proposed and developed during the study to maximize the usage of existing smart meter data when trying to detect and locate leaks.
1:00 PM – 1:45 PM: Networking Lunch
1:45 PM – 2:05 PM: Session 6:An honest evaluation of the physical impediments to achieving connectivity: Why will communication providers struggle?
Speaker: Timothy Rogers, Business Development Manager, Xylem
Format: Presentation
Objective: Discuss the role of smart meters and how they can contribute to leakage reduction efforts but what is the current state and barriers to achieving the 95% connectivity targets set by Ofwat?
2:05 PM – 2:25 PM: Session 7: Unlocking MAP Funding for Transformational Change in Water Sector Metering and Leakage Reduction
Speaker: Tanya Dady, Horizon Water Infrastructure
What is MAP funding, and how can it go beyond financial support to de-risk water companies’ operations?
What cross-sector lessons, particularly from the energy industry, can be applied to support innovation in the water sector?
How can water companies leverage MAP funding and innovative strategies to meet PR24 regulatory targets and beyond?
2:25 PM – 2:45 PM: Session 8: How can the water industry balance competition, data protection and interoperability in smart metering implementation?
Speaker: Doug Spencer, Anglian Water
2:45 PM – 3:05 PM: Session 9: What is the standards and regulations landscape in leakage and metering?
Format: Talk
3:05 PM – 3:35 PM: Collaborative Session: What is the risk score in leakage and metering?
