Cylch LDN Inaugural Event: An Interview with Chief Economist of The Bank of England, Huw Pill
Originally from Cardiff, having attended Whitchurch High School, Huw went on to study PPE at Oxford and subsequently received a PhD in Economics from Stanford University. Throughout his career, Huw has held professorial and lecture roles at Harvard Business School, several senior roles at the European Central Bank, and was the Chief European Economist at Goldman Sachs for eight years, before most recently returning to the Bank of England, where he started his career.
Huw is only the fifth ever Chief Economist of the Bank of England, a role that was first created in 1991, and is the only Welsh person to have held the role.
During the interview, I'll ask Huw about his upbringing, his career to date, an overview of central banking and monetary policy in the UK and internationally, his thoughts on the future of monetary policy, lessons from the past, and his reflections on Wales and its prospects going forward. It should be a fascinating discussion.
Doors will open from 18:00, the interview itself will start at 18:30, followed by a Q&A, and further time for drinks and networking afterwards.
