About Event

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Is AI too big? And does the tech industry’s obsession with scalability and large language models create more problems than it solves? With this workshop we ask: what would happen to AI if we start to think small instead?

In the workshop we will make a zine together where we create alternative visions for AI by thinking small instead of big, centering our perspectives instead of Big Tech’s, and prioritizing care instead of profit.

You are invited to come and create collages, comics, stories, poems, essays and anything else that comes to mind when imagining small AI technologies.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
No technical knowledge, art skills, or subject-matter expertise is needed. Just bring yourself and your unique point-of-view.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
All zine-making supplies will be provided, but you can always bring your own too! If you want to make a digital collage or other contribution? Bring your own device along!

LANGUAGE
English

PLEASE NOTE
There is a max capacity of 20 people for this session. If you can no longer attend, please change your RSVP so other someone else might take your place.

ABOUT SLOW AI PROJECT

In this project, we will interrogate and publish critical AI discourse in a format that makes sense to us and our practices, namely zines and creative technology installations. Inspired by the counter-movements of slow fashion and slow food, this project will investigate three emerging AI counter-narratives –Small AI 🐜, Ancestral AI 🐚, and Esoteric AI 🔮 – and explore what it might look like to incorporate them in our everyday practice.

At project end we will publish an anthology – a hot compost pile of miro boards, zines, and art that we hope sparks new ways to think and talk about AI.
