Event Summary
A family friendly event, encouraging attendees of all ages, and all demographics, The Black History Month Showcase is a cornerstone celebration in Lethbridge, designed to honor the history, contributions, and creative spirit of Black individuals while fostering community connection and empowerment. This flagship event by the BIPOC Foundation offers a multifaceted program that integrates entertainment, education, and entrepreneurship into an inspiring and impactful experience.
Scheduled for February 22, 2025, at the Galt Museum, the event will bring together over 130 attendees, including community leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, artists, and families. This gathering aims to celebrate the richness of Black culture while addressing systemic challenges, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to engage in cultural exchange and collective action.
The showcase blends vibrant activities with meaningful discussions, fostering an environment where creativity meets collaboration. Attendees can look forward to an array of activities that emphasize the importance of Black innovation, artistic expression, and community engagement:
Pitch Competition: A signature event that highlights the entrepreneurial talent of BIPOC individuals. Six to eight contestants will present their innovative business ideas, competing for a $500 prize and gaining mentorship opportunities that extend beyond the event.
Talent Show: A celebration of artistic excellence, featuring performances by 8–12 BIPOC creatives, including musicians, dancers, spoken word artists, and more. With two rounds of performances, the segment culminates in a $500 prize for the winner, offering both recognition and tangible support to the performers.
Inspirational Keynotes: One distinguished speaker will share their journeys, inspiring the audience with their personal stories of perseverance, innovation, and impact in their respective fields.
Vendor Booths and Exhibits: A curated marketplace will showcase local artists, entrepreneurs, and organizations. Attendees can explore and support the vibrant BIPOC business community while experiencing cultural exhibits that celebrate the history and contributions of Black individuals locally and globally.
