About Event

Demonstration for AI Safety in Stockholm!

AI presents numerous risks to humanity. Meanwhile, progress in AI capabilities is accelerating at a frantic pace and humanity is not prepared for the consequences.

This protest will occur in parallel with the Paris AI Action Summit, and 17 other PauseAI protests in cities around the world. Our goal is to convince the few influential individuals at this summit to be the adults in the room and vote to enforce AI safety at an international level. It’s up to us to make them understand that they may be the only ones who have the power to prevent AI from having catastrophic, global harms within the next few years.

Present Dangers

  • Fake news, polarization and a loss of trust in any image / video information (1)

  • Deepfakes and impersonation of individuals, especially those in power (1)

  • Scalable, untraceable bias and discrimination against many minority groups (1)

  • Technology 'addiction' and disconnection between people (1)

  • Lethal autonomous weapons (1, 2)

  • Empowerment of terrorist groups and foreign threat actors (1)

  • Environmental damage from rapid AI scaling (1, 2)

Near-Future Dangers

Additional information on AI risk available at https://airisk.mit.edu/

We suggest that the organizers and delegates at the summit can do the following to work on AI safety!

1. Work together to create global agreements and regulations to counteract serious and existential risks from AI and ensure that the companies and organizations that are now vying to develop the most capable and thus risky AI do not continue this dangerous experiment unhindered.

2. Plan the establishment of international bodies with sufficient resources and authority to effectively enforce such agreements.

3. Share experiences and knowledge about how each country can contribute to protecting our common future as well as its own population from AI risks.
