Yunnan province is one of the most exciting hiking destinations in China. Our event starts in Lijiang and we will ask all participants to arrive in Lijiang latest by 01/11.
The next day we will have a transfer to the other side of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the gorge between this mountain range and Haba Snow Mountain. This gully, the very famous Tiger Leaping Gorge is a scenic canyon on the Jinsha River, a primary tributary of the upper Yangtze River. We will descend close to the river and explore one of the groves in the gorge leading to the roaring water. We're wondering whether you have ever seen such wild river before...!
We continue our trip to the Tibetan town of Shangri-la, but will stop to visit Baishuitai, the white water terraces, along the way.
In Shangri-la we can start preparing ourselves to set off for the forests and mountains of the Meili Snow Mountain range with its spectacular vistas. Our prime destination is Yubeng Village, located at the foot of the Meili Snow Mountain Range.
Yubeng Village is a radiant pearl in Yunnan, but in order to reach it we have to cross the Nanzong Pass (3,600m asl), hiking through amazing ancient forests. Once we cross the pass itself, a spectacular mountain view unfolds before our eyes. Viewing platforms give the ideal opportunity to shoot pictures with grandiose backdrops.
As Yubeng is known for the beautiful valley it lies in, also the mountain views are simply stunning. Two mountain ranges are located 'close by' and we will spend the next two days getting up close and personal with these marvels of nature. We will schedule a hike to the Sacred Waterfall (3,650 m asl). For Tibetans this is a sacred place, a haven for spiritual cleansing. At times the droplets rain down on you and it truly feels like a blessing to be able to go through such experience. We will also get close to the glacier that feeds the mountain stream.
The next day we hike to an alpine meadow and continue to the glacier fed lake at about 3,850 m asl, literally at the foot of the mountain. It's an unforgettable moment when you reach the highest point of the hike and the lake is silently awaiting your arrival.
No need to carry heavy backpacks, a day pack will do.
We will hike out of Yubeng following the main stream and its astounding cascades and small waterfalls along the way. This is a relatively flat/downhill hike towards civilisation. From there a transfer will bring us back to Shangri-la.
The next day we will have a transfer to Lijiang.
This is not a multiple day trekking but a chain of individual day hikes which are rated as easy/moderate and certainly suited for 'less experienced' hikers provided you are physically fit.
Although there are no organised activities on Day 1, make sure to arrive in Lijiang on Day 1 as we have booked accommodation in Lijiang for that night.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, [Maps.me](http://maps.me/), OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of China, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of China at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
Although there will be guides, this still remains a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file in advance and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.
For more details and procedure, follow this link.
IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, earthquake, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
