Creating Policy Futures: A Responsible AI and Careful Industries Unconference
A half-day unconference, sharing and shaping ideas for artificial intelligence (AI) policy in the cultural and creative industries. We’ll identify and discuss where there is consensus and conflict on overall direction, priorities and detail.
AI is increasingly offered as a transformative tool for innovation. Investment in these technologies, alongside the UK's sector-based, pro-innovation approach to AI, means that uptake is rapid – but this requires scrutiny. The UK’s creative industries last contributed £126 billion to the UK economy, yet the creative sector is not prioritised in AI policy dialogue. Additionally, issues with IP exploitation, skills development, adoption of technology and a whole hast of elements need attention and discourse.
With a new UK Government in place, this half day together with creative practitioners, researchers and industry representatives are focused on identify what the next steps in AI policy can be when it comes to the UK’s cultural and creative industries.
Speakers include:
Adam Ingle, LEGO
Lex Fefegha, Independent creative coder and artist
Dr Erinma Ochu, UWE Bristol
Henry Cooke, Lead Foresight Researcher, BBC R&D
Mia Leslie, Institute for the Future of Work
Facilitated by Careful Trouble, sessions will explore:
What progress has been made in AI policy for the cultural and creative industries so far?
What is understood as acceptable and what is not acceptable when it comes to AI development and adoption?
What should we prioritise and where is there consensus?
The aim is to produce a report of the day’s findings that can include a rapid response to the government’s Industrial Strategy open consultation.
