Cardstock - Futures Games, with Dr Lonny Avi Brooks

​At the Dubai Future Forum in November 2024, one of the games in the futures games showcase was AfroRithms from the Future, a cooperative design, exploration, and storytelling game that centres Black and Indigenous perspectives, presented by Dr Lonny Avi Brooks and Ahmed Best.

​We are delighted that Lonny will join us for this month's Cardstock online meet-up, to tell us more about the game before we open up into discussion about using card games in futures work.

​DR. LONNY AVI BROOKS IS A SCHOLAR REPRESENTING THE EAST BAY. HE IS A PROFESSOR AT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, EAST BAY IN STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION & FORESIGHT.

​Lonny received his Ph.D. in Communication at UC San Diego and an MA in Library and Information Science at UCLA. He is a co-founder of the AfroRithm Futures Group and the former Chair of the Communication And The Future (CATF) division of the National Communication Association.

​Renowned for his scholarship surrounding every shade of Afrofuturism, Lonny has served as a visiting professor for the Stanford d.school.

​‍He has authored and co-authored a vast array of futurist studies and explorations in international publications like the Journal of International Communication, USC Annenberg Press, and Afrofuturism 2.0: The rise of Astro-Blackness anthology.
