Webinar: Creating Belonging – Insights from Black Heritage Students
Join us for the launch of our latest Student Voice Report: "Am I by myself?" exploring what Black heritage students want universities to do to increase their sense of belonging.
From the impact of representation and identity to the mental toll of navigating predominantly white institutions, this panel discussion shares findings from our research and offers honest, evidence-based insights that every university leader needs to hear.
Meet Our Panelists:
Dr. Marl'ene Edwin
Dr. Edwin is the Deputy Director of the Centre for Caribbean and Diaspora Studies at Goldsmiths University and serves as the Academic Lead for the university's Equity Awards. Her expertise brings valuable academic perspective to our discussion.
Angie Adewebi
Angie is one of our student alumni who contributed to the research. Currently at UCL studying Astrophysics and the History, Philosophy and Policy of Science, she's working toward her goal of becoming the first black female physics professor in the UK.
Najah Jama
A former mentee on our Insight2Uni programme, Najah is currently studying at QMUL and joined us as an intern to lead on the research. Her first-hand experience brings an invaluable perspective to the findings.
Christine Kinnear (Chair)
As CEO of With Insight Education, Christine will chair this panel discussion. Decades after her own university choice was influenced by fears of fitting in, she was disheartened to discover similar concerns still hinder black-heritage students from attending top universities. Christine sits on several diversity and education boards, including Causeway Education and the AccessHE Race Equity forum.
