Blobs on Blobs: Color Lab (Watercolor for all levels)
Following up on two lovely sessions of Blobs on Blobs on Blobs, this workshop will be focused on getting to know colors and how they play together. You do not need to have attended a previous Blobs to come to this one!
How do we avoid muddy watercolor? How much blue and how much yellow do we need to make green, and are there other combinations besides blue+yellow? Are we not supposed to use black or white paint?
This workshop won't follow classical color theory (though we may touch on it) and you won't use a color wheel (unless you want to). Instead, we will talk about materials, water management, and building your own palette, before getting into color in a more intuitive way. Whether you are brand new to watercolor, or an experienced artist who would appreciate some more color practice, if all of that sounds fun, then this color lab is for you.
Materials are provided — if you have your own, feel free to bring them. Watercolor usually washes out of clothes, but it’s a good idea to wear something you don’t feel precious about.
This event is capped at 6 people, to allow for individualized attention. Registration is sliding scale, $45 and up.
If you have any questions, please contact Lisa!
Age recommendation: The workshop is technically accessible for all ages, but the content is aimed at people who want to work on their skills — which usually isn’t the way younger kids enjoy making art. Also, there is art on display at the studio that is not appropriate for children. But please get in touch if you have questions about kids attending, especially if that’s a deal-breaker for your own ability to attend.
Instructor bio: Lisa Hsia (she/her) is a writer and artist who has been painting in watercolor for about 15 years. She loves experimenting with it and helping other people get comfortable in this magical medium!
