Join the SassyTribe monthly Book Club hosted by Diahala Doucouré, Zainab Mirza, Celina Uhl and Anna Vybornova.
✨ For the last book of this year, we chose Yellowface written by Rebecca F. Kuang, a gripping novel that explores the boundaries of identity, ambition, and cultural ownership in the literary world.
Join us on Tuesday, November 26th, for an exciting conversation! We can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts!
About the Book:
Yellowface follows June Hayward, an aspiring writer who seizes the chance of a lifetime when she witnesses the tragic death of her celebrated friend and rival, Athena Liu. In a desperate act, June claims Athena's groundbreaking novel on Chinese laborers’ contributions during World War I as her own, even reinventing herself with an ambiguous persona as “Juniper Song.”
But as her stolen success rises, June finds herself haunted by Athena's legacy and a growing web of suspicion, forcing her to confront the boundaries she's crossed. Through an immersive first-person narrative, Yellowface tackles questions of cultural appropriation, identity, and the pressures of social media with razor-sharp insight.
Bring your notes, insights and let’s dive deep into Kuang's thought-provoking story and these timely themes. ✨
As usual, you're welcome to join the session even if you haven't finished reading the book.
