Work In Process - Exhibition Opening Event at Design Week Calgary
Join us for the opening of Work In Process, an evening that offers a glimpse behind the curtain, and brings Calgary’s creative community together to celebrate ways of making.
This event invites guests to explore the behind-the-scenes worlds of both design and music. The exhibition reveals the inner workings of Calgary’s design studios - featuring one model, one sketch, and one object from local design firms - alongside a songwriter circle, for an intimate look into the creative process of four local musicians:

While we’re often presented with polished buildings and finished songs, Work In Process shines a light on what comes before: the creative process, the redlined ideas, and the stories that shape the final work.
Come for an evening of sketches and songs - this is a night for those who find inspiration in the making.
Work in Process offers a glimpse behind the curtain into the inner workings of Calgary’s design studios. Featuring one model, one sketch, and one object from ten local firms, this installation reveals the everyday materials, rituals, and trace paper ideas that shape the design process. While we usually only see the final renderings and polished buildings, Work in Process highlights what comes before. It’s a peek at what gets pinned up, redlined, or left on the cutting room floor - and the studio energy that often keeps the lights on late.

Accessibility Note: Contemporary Calgary is a wheelchair-accessible venue with designated accessible parking, accessible washrooms, and wheelchairs available on-site. The Grotto features ground-level entry, spacious layout, and access to an outdoor area. Lighting and sound will be somewhat moderated to avoid excessive overstimulation. Volunteers will be available to support guests with different sensory or cognitive needs.
