Poi Pounding Workshop at Waimea Valley
Join us for a hands-on opportunity to prepare kalo for poi pounding (Kuʻi Kalo)! We'll talk story on its cultural significance in Hawaiian culture, surrounded by the beauty of Waimea Valley. Guided by Mikey Denis and Mokihana Pule.

Free admission to Waimea Valley for kamaʻāina included with workshop registration. Check-in at the ticket booth with your name.
Location
Workshop begins at 10am at Upper Meadow.
If you choose to walk, Upper Meadow is about a 10-20 minute walk from the ticket booth – Please plan accordingly! Ask the staff for directions. You also have the option for a free shuttle ride at 9:45am.
Flow
9:45am: Shuttle departs Ticket Booth to Upper Meadow.
10am to 11am: Cleaning and preparing cooked Kalo – Laulima!
11am to 12pm: Poi Pounding demonstration
What to Bring
A small Tupperware or container to bring home samples
A chair or mat to sit on the grass
If you have, pohaku kuʻi poi (poi pounder) and papa kuʻiʻai (poi board)
