Learn Pinpoint for Journalists — A Wonder Tools Workshop with Mary Nahorniak

​Learn about Pinpoint, a new Google tool built with journalists in mind. In this 45-minute training, we'll

• ​Learn how to upload your own document sets to examine through powerful search functionality, including

  • ​Searching handwriting and text within images.

• ​We'll show you how to use Pinpoint to transcribe audio and video files, such as interviews and meetings.

• ​We'll also review some case studies and see how U.S. newsrooms have used Pinpoint in their work.

• ​Explore public collections of documents

​Pinpoint is now available free for journalists and academic researchers, and you can register for an account here, ahead of the session. If you register the week ahead and begin to use the tool, you are invited to bring any questions you might have to the session. 

​The session will be led by Google News Lab's U.S. teaching fellow, Mary Nahorniak. Mary is focused on collaborating with journalists and entrepreneurs to drive innovation in news.

​She was previously part of USA TODAY’s leadership team as the director of audience, responsible for the organization’s digital platforms and a 24/7 team of nearly 30 editors. Mary was one of the first journalists pioneering how newsrooms can directly connect with audiences through social platforms, beginning at The Baltimore Sun in the mid-2000s. She’s also an ACC-certified leadership coach and has helped clients at ESPN, Harvard Business Review and the U.S. Department of Justice define and realize their goals. Mary believes in empathetic leadership, audience-centered strategy and strong coffee.☕️
