Off-Script: An Experiment in Dating
They say dating in NYC is a mess—and all kinds of apps and events are popping up to fix it. We are not claiming to have that kind of power.
But we do have a community that naturally filters out a$$holes and pretentious people, and that feels like a good place to start.
We have a feeling that a key antidote to crappy dating is curiosity, so we're going to lead with that. Our plan is to experiment, play, and see what actually feels good, honest, and worthwhile.
Even if you don’t meet “the one,” we’re pretty sure you’ll leave having had some belly laughs, great conversation, and a night well spent.
Some questions we’re bringing to the table:
– What if the best way to connect wasn’t through your best lines, but your real questions?
– In what ways do we actually want to connect when we meet someone new?
– How can we stay in our bodies and present, even when our nervous systems get a little jumpy?
Expect group games (inspired by dating game shows), rotating partners, shared curiosity prompts, and moments of bold, absurd, or surprising honesty. We’re here to trade performance for presence—and flirty posturing for real, playful connection.
Your hosts will guide you through a night of laughter, depth, nerves, and maybe even sparks. We’ll draw from somatic practices and improv to stay open, grounded, and a little more ourselves.
This is for single people who want a place to connect, flirt, fuck up, and feel—without the posturing, ghosting, or endless scrolling.
Note: For this first edition of Off-Script, we’re keeping things intentionally geared toward heterosexual pairings, with 15 spots for women and 15 for men. Future versions will explore a wider range of orientations and formats—stay tuned.
