ABOUT THE "BENEVOLENCE" SERIES:
Benevolence is a multidisciplinary series of projects that documents the spirit, legacy and stories of the Hakka Chinese (客家 / guest families) in Canada. The projects include a solo show "Benevolence" premiering at the Tarragon Theatre in April 2025, a documentary created and screened with the Reel Asian International Film Festival, and a multimedia museum installation Benevolence Hall, currently presented by Toronto History Museums at the Market Gallery in Toronto’s historic St. Lawrence Market, May 16 - August 4, 2024.

"BENEVOLENCE" PLAY DESCRIPTION:
Kevin is a theatre creator. Kevin is Hakka (客家)…he thinks. Out of the blue, he gets a phone call asking him to write a play about Hakka identity. For seniors. In Markham. From creator and performer Kevin Matthew Wong (The Chemical Valley Project) comes a charming and intimate story that transforms into a layered Chinese-Canadian tale spanning continents, migrations, and generations.
