Karla Marie Ceramics Studio are very proud to present one of Aotearoa's most dynamic emerging ceramic Artists, Sung Hwan Bobby Park, for a Friday night Masterclass that will ignite your creativity and leave you glowing after experiencing the practice and techniques of this exciting artist.
Sung Hwan Bobby Park 박성환 is a Korean-born visual artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau. He has worked with ceramics since 2016, with early works presented at the Emerging Practitioner in Clay Awards 2018 in Whanganui. His latest solo exhibition, BTM Complete in Reflection, was shown with Auckland Ceramic Potters in 2022. The works made use of various materials in conjunction with ceramics to make bullet proof helmets, as an exploration of queer experience in the Korean military.

Come and join this 3-hour ceramic workshop and unleash your creativity with Sung Hwan Bobby Park. Sung Hwan will take you through the process of making his Glove Vase series; a sculptural functional piece in the shape of hands to express emotions, identities, and energy. This workshop explores symbolism and iconography through the medium of clay. The session will involve lots of making and conversation.
In addition to learning the art of sculptural pottery making, you will also have the opportunity to choose from our studio's range of premium and bespoke glazes! Our KMC kiln fairies will glaze and complete your pieces ready for collection several weeks after your class.
Our glazes are specially formulated to enhance the beauty of your pottery and give them a professional finish.
If you prefer, you can also come back for one of our specialty open glaze sessions to complete the glazing yourself at a special discounted rate. This will give you a chance to personalise your pieces even more and add your own unique touch to them.
