Q- How can I start a conversation with my child when he/she is distressed?
A- When we think of approaching our children for the talk, we plan our own ideas on how to do that. When the confusion is the most, I believe in a very basic approach of asking them simply. No need of going through complicated processes and mechanisms, just be natural, non-judgmental, and compassionate. The important aspect is, to be careful of your response. Try not to dismiss or disapprove of it. Validate their thoughts and emotions, and avoid judging their state of mind. Be open to listening to them and accepting them.

Adolescents strive for freedom and autonomy; thus, communication with their parents needs to be enhanced. Building solid healthy relationships at this stage of their lives are of utmost importance to help them cope with the changes and challenges they are experiencing. This Friday, we invite Megha Sharma, who would talk about different stages in the Parent-child relationship and discuss constructive ways to enhance the relationship.

Join us on 3rd June at 5pm, stay tuned!
