How to Stop Fucking Up Your Team - Scaling Culture Before Your Startup Implodes - FSO Speaker Series
About
At Figuring Shit Out, we put on events for Founders who don't normally go to events. We didn't believe Singapore needed another panel, fireside chat or Q&A so we did the radical step of asking speakers to sit down ahead of time and think about what they wanted to say. Beyond palatable food & hopefully more than palatable networking, why schlep across town to sit in a cramped room for an hour: Perspective!
All our speakers come from fascinating career backgrounds that caused them to look at the world and think about problems in uniquely insightful ways. From a Founder Coach who sees you avoiding your most important problem stemming from emotional barriers, an ex-Art Dealer, now Investor Relations on the psychology of million-dollar transactions when it comes to fundraising and IPOs, a COO who helps neurodiverse founders design systems that work with their brain... Each talk provides a unique lens on the problems facing startups that Founders can absorb to provide a new toolkit of insights for their own founder journey.
Topic
Most companies treat “culture” like an annual party, a wall of posters, or a page in the handbook. That’s why most culture initiatives fade faster than Monday morning motivation.
In this unapologetically direct talk, Joe Black will share how a scrappy service business accidentally stumbled into culture that worked, and how he went on to intentionally design it for fast-growing companies across Southeast Asia, including one of the region’s most acclaimed restaurant brands.
You’ll hear the real stories (including the ones that didn’t work), the uncomfortable truths about why your “culture” might actually be an accident, and a dead-simple way to design behaviors, skills, and systems so your team delivers their best work, whether you’re in the room or not.
About the Speaker
Joe Black spent four years consulting with the internationally acclaimed corporate culture transformation specialist, Delivering Happiness. He worked with clients such as VPBank, Seller Candy, Sathapana Bank, as well as serving as the Culture & Operations Excellence Director at Pizza 4P’s for the past two years—one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in SE Asia, with over 40 locations and 3,700 employees in 5 countries.
Through all this he found that everything works better if people love what they do, the company does better AND people live better lives.
Joe founded Dreamscope with the mission to positively impact 100,000 lives by enabling leaders to build high-performing, purpose-driven teams across Southeast Asia and beyond by 2030.
