VP 21-04-25 — Not Built for Paradise

In previous, I’ve used the subject “Weekly Update YYYY-MM-DD — Title” which is a bit of a mouthful. I’m going to experiment with some new subjects.

Ideally, I’ll come up with a cool name for this series…

Not Built for Paradise

I got back to SF on Saturday after spending a week in Maui. We went paddle boarding in the mornings and gathered for delicious, merry dinners in the evenings.

But I realized on that trip that I’m not built for paradise. While I enjoyed spending time in the sun and drinking pina coladas every afternoon, my body rejected it.

Even though I put on sunscreen every morning and afternoon, my skin started to react to the sun at the end of the week. I think it was my body’s way of telling me that while spending hours in the sun is fun, a week is enough.

So it’s time to get back to work.

I’ll be in San Francisco this week and then I’m headed to LA the week after. That’ll be the first week in a year that I’ll spend away from my COVID family. The next few months will have some big changes that I’m still processing…

Learning — Reflexivity and Ergodicity

I’ve spent today learning about Reflexivity and Ergodicity.

Reflexivity is the concept that for certain systems, our beliefs can be self-fulfilling. If we believe a stock will go up, then it will go up.

Ergodicity is a little more confusing and I’m still trying to grasp it. It’s the concept that the average over many different instances may not be the same as the average over time. …or something like that. I’m still trying to understand and hopefully I’ll have a more succinct explanation next time.
