About Event

Rooted Resilience is a monthly reading club by Seeding Sovereignty’s mutual aid program that amplifies the voices of BIPOC authors, revolutionaries, and earth guardians. Each month, we dive into transformative works that center the fight for justice—whether through the lens of decolonization, environmental stewardship, or collective liberation.

High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America by Jessica B. Harris traces the rich history of African American cuisine from Africa to the United States. It explores how food traditions carried by enslaved Africans shaped American culinary culture. Through stories of resilience, creativity, and cultural preservation, Harris illuminates the profound influence of Black cooks and foodways on American identity and heritage.

How to Participate:
1. Read High on the Hog by Jessica B Harris (**Optional: Watch the DocuSeries High on the Hog featuring Dr. Harris (currently on Netflix)
2. Join us virtually on 3/14 to discuss! Yam will be sending out study questions throughout the month and a discussion agenda before 3/14.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
