Drawing Out the Artist in You (Mindfulness + Art)
Almost every week I come across someone who says, “I’m not an artist.” I used to think this too. Then I discovered that it is possible to be completely fulfilled as an artist, with joy and ease and no sense of limitation.
Your skill level doesn’t matter. Masterpieces have been made that are little more than simple line drawings or stick figures; a perfectly photographic rendering can feel lifeless. The difference is the life you put into it. Anyone can put life into their art. That’s what we'll be doing. And it's easy and fun!
This workshop is for anyone who wants to experience the joy and discovery of making art.
What we’ll be doing
There's a natural flow and rhythm to life that can be experienced through visual art (painting, drawing, collage). The type of art I do and teach is free-form, sometimes referred to as abstract. Rather than trying to capture an image from the world or your mind, you are expressing what you feel, while exploring the interplay of color, form, and movement. In this fun, interactive experience, we’ll explore getting into the “feel” of what being an artist is for each of us.
Learn some basic principles of free-form (abstract) art
Be inspired to keep going on your own
Get ideas for materials and next steps
Most of all: feel empowered to be yourself as you create!
Even if you don't see yourself as artistic or creative, you can learn to make art in a way that is satisfying. This can also open fresh vistas within you and awaken your creativity in all aspects of life.
Some supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own: pencil, pen, Sharpie, watercolor, crayon, paper, notebook, iPads, etc.
