Mech Hack
Join us for a weekend hackathon to prototype software tools and infrastructure for engineering applications across mechanical, civil, electrical and more.
Software tools in CAD, simulation, optimisation, and workflows are more critical than ever for engineering productivity. However, most tools engineers use are built on ancient software stacks controlled by monopolistic companies.
We are building a community of tech-literate engineers, mathematicians, software developers, founders, and engineering-software-focused investors to stimulate the development and funding of:
Open source tools
Tools/product integrations and combinations
New startups and the commercialisation of academic research
Themes
Computational geometry (surface representation, mesh generation, rendering, geometric kernels)
Interoperability (file parsers, converters)
Workflow automation (combine multiple programmable CAD/CAE tools into unified workflows)
Simulation (mechanical, fluid, thermal, electrical)
Computational design (link CAD + simulation workflows to automatically converge on optimal designs)
Who should come?
Engineers (mechanical, civil, electrical, thermal)
Programmers
Researchers (mathematicians, engineers, computational physicists, simulation specialists)
Anyone else interested in building better tools/infrastructure for engineering applications!
We are hacking at a fantastic co-working space offered by Oliver Kingshot from Halkin. We’ll be providing free food throughout the event.
If you can’t make it in person you are welcome to participate online, more details will be provided closer to the event.
The event is organised by Vanellus, a Cambridge-based startup developing accelerated simulation tools for thermal analysis of electronics and computing systems.
If you would be interested in sponsoring or partnering with us for this event drop me a message: laurence@vanellus.tech
FAQs
What is a hackathon?
A collaborative programming event where teams work to build a functional prototype over a short period of time.
What do you mean by engineering software?
Any of the tools used by engineers for designing, simulating, optimising and visualising, in addition to the infrastructure these tools depend on, such as mesh generation, file parsers, CAD kernels etc.
What do I need to bring?
Bring yourself, your laptop and snacks. We’ll handle the rest!
When is it running?
The hackathon will start on Saturday morning and run until Sunday afternoon. We have the space available the whole time, so feel free to hack into the night if you are keen!
What level of experience do I need to attend?
There’s no minimum expertise required, as long as you bring ideas and energy for solving problems in the engineering software space.
