🌆 Urban Sketching [members & +1s]
A monthly field trip where the city becomes both our studio and our muse. Absolutely no artistic experience is required to join!
We will take a short walk to a pre-determined spot and observe/draw/paint together for an hour or so - kind of like our own version of an urban sketchers group. I'd be more than happy to guide those who are new to on-location drawing.
🎒 What to bring
The supplies you want to work with.
✏️ Something to draw with: colored pencils, pens, charcoal, paint, whatever you want to experiment with
📒 Something to draw on: paper, clipboard, sketchbook, iPads, your skin, whatever your heart desires.
You are welcome to work with any mediums you prefer, just make sure you have at least a pen or pencil and paper. I put my supplies list at the bottom in ca
Water bottle and snacks
Hat, sunglasses, sunblock, jacket, layers. (if the weather is bad, we will use this time to sketch the lively environment inside The Commons)
Lightweight camping chair or blanket

Below is what I will personally be bringing for my own drawing sessions. My medium of choice is watercolors 💦🎨 as they are easy to travel with and have a mind of their own that force me to live with my mistakes and give up some control over the final outcome of the piece.
In my 🎒, you’ll find:
📔 A watercolor sketchbook (if you are using watercolors, make sure you have appropriate paper. I usually go for Strathmore but any will work)
👛 A pencil pouch with
✏️ A few pencils (I like graphic pencils with a few different hardness - F, HB, 2B, 4B)
🔪 A pencil sharpener
🧽 An eraser
🎨 Set of watercolors (I have this Winsor & Newton “pocket box” which is super easy to travel with. I recommend pans vs. tubes so its less clean up)
🖌️ 2-3 paint brushes (I usually work with a size 4, then grab one smaller + one bigger)
✒️ Black pens (I love my TWSBI fountain pen. I normally have a few of various sizes. Pilot G2s are great)
🧻 A few sheets of paper towels to dry off my paint brushes
💦 Full water bottle (doubles as my water supply for watercolors)
🍶 Tiny cup to pour the water in / rinse brushes
